Free Town
Foundation
feed seniors

On Holy Thursday, April 6, 2023, volunteers from the Free Town Foundation were out in the communities of Sandy Bay, Old Harbour, Cockpit, Free Town, and Longville Park distributing bun and cheese to seniors and shut-ins.

For the shut-ins, it was a welcome interruption; they chatted with volunteers and enjoyed not just the sweet treat but the encouraging words given.

Powered by the programme committee, Opal Thompson, who chairs the committee, said growing up in Jamaica, it has always been a rich tradition this time of year to enjoy bun and cheese. "The thought process behind taking this initiative is to show the seniors that they are appreciated and that we look to them as pillars of culture," she said.

There were heartfelt thanks from the seniors, who said they felt great to be recognized as they expressed heartfelt thanks to the team. On Easter Sunday, the children were not forgotten, as they too got a chance to enjoy the Easter celebration. Following their ‘Sunday School’ classes, they were treated by members of the foundation.

SPECIAL THANKS:
